Sunt un fraier pentru adevărata aventură de călătorie sau cărți „rutiere”. Există o mulțime de personaje interesante în acesta!
This was an incredibly gripping novel. I read it in just a few days. I was so captured by the characters it just brought me right into the story from the very start. The storyline itself is one I've never thought of before. I've been fortunate that I have never experienced a first hand encounter with anyone with AD, so beyond the basics, I wasn't too educated on the subject. Not only did this story suck you in but it actually teaches the readers about what living with AD is actually like, through the eyes of the family members, but most importantly, through the eyes of the affected person, Alice. Alice was such a bright and vivacious woman. It was so sad to see her decline but I really enjoyed the ever changing relationships she had with her husband and children. I felt a true love between her and John, and he was such a caring and considerate husband. However, as her condition progressed, I found myself disliking him greatly at times and his response and reactions to his declining wife shocked and sometimes sickened me. I couldn't believe that this was the same doting husband as we'd seen at the beginning of the story and his actions often left me wondering how and why. While his seemingly distant nature isn't what I would want from my husband in the same situation, I find that this was almost a little more realistic than having the usual story of the spouse throwing themeslves out the window for their terminally ill signigicant other. Overall, he just turned cold and I wouldn't wish that on anyone struggling through such a disease. I didn't find this took away from the story though, it was disappointing to see, but my strong feelings proved just how very real John's character was. I really really enjoyed this book and I have since picked up Left Neglected and I can't wait to sink into this one. After reading about Lisa Genova, I have realized she is a woman after my own heart. She is a mother who wrote this book sitting in Starbucks enjoying her Chai Lattes while her daughter was at school. Amen Sister! That is the epitomy of a perfect day. :)
